About Singhara Atta Puri

Jain-friendly crispy deep-fried bread made from water chestnut flour — no onion, no garlic, no root vegetables, fasting special

Ingredients

How to make it

  1. 1Mix 1 cup singhara (water chestnut) flour with salt, black pepper, and cumin powder.
  2. 2Add warm water gradually and knead into a smooth, crack-free dough. Rest for 5 minutes.
  3. 3Divide into 8 equal portions. Roll each into a small ball and flatten into 3-inch discs using your palm (do not use a rolling pin as dough is delicate).
  4. 4Heat oil for deep frying on medium heat. Gently slide in puris one at a time. Fry until puffed and light golden on both sides.
  5. 5Drain on paper towels. Serve hot with curd or any Jain-friendly sabzi.
